# Comic Mutant Musical Ensembles Jamie Roberts Illustrates Cast of X-Men as a Badass Rock Band By Jason Soy | Published 2012-08-29 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jamie-roberts References: [blog.thaeger](http://blog.thaeger.com/2012/08/28/x-rock/) & [jam-wah.deviantart](http://jam-wah.deviantart.com/) As if comic geeks everywhere didn’t find the cast of [X-Men badass enough](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ovo-x-marvel), illustrator Jamie Roberts recently rendered the ragtag crew of mutants as [rock stars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/80s-rock-exhibit). It goes without saying that the resulting images are ridiculously awesome. Among those featured in the series, which Jamie Roberts has titled ‘X-Rock,’ are Rogue, Nightcrawler, Beast, Banshee and Wolverine. It’s actually quite amusing to see Roberts cast several characters in roles that cater to their superpowers. And having [Wolverine as a Slash-esque lead guitarist](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gibson-and-marc-jacobs) was just a stroke of genius. The series is also notable for its use of cyan and magenta, complementary colors that really pop off the black backdrop that Roberts used to replicate lighting in live venues. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 47% | Activity: 31% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Comic Mutant Musical Ensembles:** Illustrated comic characters as rockstars merging two fandoms together. - **Superhero Cosplay Rock Bands:** Creating cosplay musical shows featuring superheroes and supervillains as band members. - **Crossover Comic Novels with Rock Bands:** Authors and bands collaborating to create novels that merge comics and music. ### Who This Affects Most - **Entertainment:** Incorporating music into comic art will create an appealing form of entertainment for fans of both. - **Cosplay:** Introducing music into cosplay shows will appeal to music fans interested in superhero and supervillain aesthetics. - **Publishing:** Collaborating with bands and illustrators to create cross-platform novels will attract readers interested in comic and music culture. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Comic-Inspired Gaming Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xmen-97-xbox.md) - [Superhero Headquarter Puzzle Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xmansion.md) - [Superhero-Inspired Virtual Fireplaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xmen-97-fireside.md) - [Superhero-Inspired Popcorn Buckets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deadpool-wolverine1.md) - [Rockband-Inspired Rancher Boots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scholar-rancher.md) - [Reimagined Beloved Character Comics](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marvel-and-disney.md) - [Superhero-Inspired Wristwatches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deadpool-and-wolverine-1.md) - [Iconic Band Apparel Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/freaks-store-2.md) - [Collectible Cosplay Condiments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heinz-ketchup-and-mustard.md)
