# Woodland Creature Dishware James Ward Draws and Paints his Plates With Intimidating Animals By Michael Hines | Published 2010-09-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/james-ward References: [kitsunenoir](http://kitsunenoir.com/2010/08/31/james-ward/) & [fancy](http://fancy.com/things/382961277380594613/Sandwich-Defender-Plate-by-JimBob-Art-x-Wolf-&-Badger) James Ward is an artist who has taken his talents in drawing and painting and directed them towards the kitchen cupboard. His hand-painted and drawn plates feature furry woodland creatures and often hilarious statements. Who wouldn't want a plate with a bear on it that says "Sandwich Defender"? The slogans and animals are cute, but what really gets me about James Ward's plates is the quality of the work. I never thought that a plate could make such a good canvas for both drawing and painting. Prove me wrong James Ward. Prove me wrong. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.8/10 - Popularity: 16% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Hand-painted Dishware:** Opportunity for artists to create unique and personalized dishware with hand-painted designs. - **Animal-themed Tableware:** Growing demand for dishware featuring animals as a playful and whimsical element. - **Humorous Slogans on Plates:** Increasing interest in dishware with funny and witty statements for added amusement during meals. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Craft:** Artists can explore new avenues by creating custom hand-painted dishware for customers seeking unique pieces. - **Home Decor:** Growing market for animal-themed tableware as consumers look for quirky and eye-catching items to enhance their dining experience. - **Gifts and Souvenirs:** Humorous slogan plates present an opportunity for businesses to offer amusing and personalized gift options for various occasions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [PB&J-Inspired Sandwich Plates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pbj-inspired-sandwich-plates.md) - [Creature-Inspired Home Good Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/charles-jeffreys-loverboy.md) - [Sculptural Ceramic Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/office-of-tangible-spaces.md) - [Innovative Ceramic Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ceramic-tableware1.md) - [Revived Mid-Century Serveware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tortugaware.md) - [Colorful Enamelware Plates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-tigress.md) - [Vibrantly Designed Playful Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hem.md) - [Artsy Surrealist Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gohar-world.md) - [Artfully Dynamic Vessels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/devin-wilde.md)
