# Streaming Light Installations James Tapscott's 'Transference' and 'The Arc' is Luminous By Jordy E | Published 2012-11-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/james-tapscott References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/james-tapscott-light-land-installations) & [paper-st-art](http://www.paper-st-art.com) Australian-born artist James Tapscott has brought viewers into his [illuminated world](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lumino1) via his 'Transference' and 'The Arc' installations. Bold, bright effects are created with strands of [fiber optic cables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alba-light) which are used to draw beams of light to 70ft x 70ft fields and wide open spaces. Tapscott invests a great deal of time into his work. He allowed for an entire month to pass while putting on The Arc, monitoring it as it took on new dimensions at a salt lake. It eventually became entirely coated in salt, altering the colors. In spite of the immense detail that goes into these [live art exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-flow), Tapscott clings to the values of minimalism and simplicity, "The forms I create are usually quite simple and elegant- without baggage." The steams of white and blue are indeed silencing. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 82% | Activity: 45% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Fiber Optic Light Installations:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop advanced fiber optic technologies to create immersive light installations in various settings. - **Minimalist Art Exhibits:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Combine minimalism and technological advancements to create visually stunning and immersive art experiences. - **Salt Lake Transformations:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the use of natural elements such as salt in art installations to create unique and ever-changing visual effects. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Installation:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Use technology and unconventional materials to push the boundaries of traditional art forms and create captivating installations. - **Lighting and Fiber Optics:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop new fiber optic lighting solutions that can be used in a variety of applications, from art installations to architectural designs. - **Event and Exhibition:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate interactive and visually stunning installations in events and exhibitions to provide memorable and immersive experiences for attendees. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Illuminated Curtained Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-the-invisible-visible.md) - [Wonderous Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/your-psychoacoustic-light-ensemble.md) - [Immersive Light Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spencer-finch.md) - [Unique Interactive Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-aurora.md) - [Stunningly Intricate Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shapes-of-light.md) - [Immersive Light Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/psychoacoustic-light-ensemble.md) - [Lightning-Inspired Artful Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bright-light-shining.md) - [Suspended Lighting Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suspended-lighting-installation.md) - [Orb Lighting Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mangrove-island.md)
