# Jail Cell Accommodations Artist Miao Jiaxin Posts a Unique Airbnb Rental for Only $1 a Night By Meghan Young | Published 2014-10-21 | World Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jail-cell-accommodation References: [complexmag](http://www.complexmag.ca/art-design/2014/06/artist-rents-out-a-cage-for-guests-to-stay-in-gets-his-listing-on-airbnb-removed) & [miaojiaxin](http://www.miaojiaxin.com/) It's not everyday that people get to stay in a jail cell accommodation, nor live out what could be construed as an S&M fantasy straight out of 'Fifty Shades of Gray.' Unfortunately for those who would have booked two nights at the 'Dream Cage,' [Airbnb](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cliff-dweller-cabin) removed the posting a few short hours after it was put up. Questionable, to say the very least, it only cost $1 to stay at this particular jail cell accommodation. Hosted by Miao Jiaxin, an artist who was born in Shanghai and now lives in New York, the jail cell accommodation came with a big caveat. From nine in the morning to noon, guests wouldn't have had access to any entertainment and wouldn't have been allowed to talk, exercise or sleep. Two cameras would monitor the guests activity to ensure no rules were broken. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.6/10 - Popularity: 54% | Activity: 75% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [World](https://www.trendhunter.com/world) > [Travel](https://www.trendhunter.com/travel) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Alternative Accommodations:** Offer unique and unconventional living experiences, such as jail cell accommodations. - **Artistic Hospitality:** Create hospitality experiences that allow guests to interact with art and artists, such as Miao Jiaxin's Dream Cage. - **Extreme Experimentation:** Push the boundaries of what is acceptable in accommodations with controversial experiences like Miao Jiaxin's Dream Cage. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Hospitality:** Create unique hospitality experiences to attract adventurous travelers, such as jail cell accommodations. - **Art:** Merge the intersection of art and hospitality by creating immersive and interactive experiences inspired by Miao Jiaxin's Dream Cage. - **Wellness:** Incorporate forced digital detoxes, such as Miao Jiaxin's Dream Cage, into wellness retreats to promote mindfulness and relaxation. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Cliffside-Attached Rental Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cliff-dweller-cabin.md) - [Filmic Swamp Accommodations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stay-at-shreks-swamp.md) - [Pop Culture-Inspired Rentals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airbnb-3.md) - [Luxe Windmill Accomodations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moulin-rouge-windmill.md) - [Film-Inspired Eerie Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beetlejuice-house.md) - [Rent-Free Hotels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/restored-italian-house.md) - [Cult Film-Inspired Rented Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swamp-airbnb.md) - [$1 Tiny Apartment Rentals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiny-apartment-rental.md) - [Sitcom-Themed Room Stays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sex-and-the-city-airbnb.md)
