# Mystically Macabre Paintings Jacques de Beaufort Illustrates the Unsavory and Unsettling By Jordan Sowunmi | Published 2011-06-02 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jacques-de-beaufort References: [beautifuldecay](http://beautifuldecay.com/2011/06/01/jacques-de-beauforts-alternative-world/#more-44739) & [jacquesdebeaufort.net](http://www.jacquesdebeaufort.net/) Jacques de Beaufort's portfolio showcases the work of an extremely experienced artist with an eye for the unsavory and the unsettling. Jacques de Beaufort is a 36-year-old Delaware native who began his art career after graduating from the University of Virginia in 1997. His work is heavily influenced by psychedelic surrealism. His paintings feature grisly images, including two young children standing next to a blood-red body of water and a jagged mountain that looks like a gruesome version of Mount Rushmore with wolves and a skinless man stepping in for the Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson and Roosevelt. Jacques de Beaufort sees his work as creating a connection between two disparate realms of human consciousness. "Psychopompos are spirits from the non-visible world that have the ability to cross between the barrier that separates us from the other," he said. "As a mediator between the conscious and unconscious realms, the psychopomp is able to restore psychic order and bring forth a deeper level of consciousness and clarity." Jacques de Beaufort is currently an associate professor of Visual Arts at Palm Beach State College in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.2/10 - Popularity: 96% | Activity: 83% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Psychedelic Surrealism:** Opportunities for creating mind-bending and unconventional art that challenges traditional artistic boundaries. - **Unsettling Imagery:** Opportunities for exploring dark and unsettling themes in art to evoke emotional responses and spark conversations. - **Consciousness Exploration:** Opportunities for using art as a medium to explore and connect different realms of human consciousness. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunities in the art industry through the creation of unconventional and thought-provoking artwork. - **Education:** Opportunities for incorporating unconventional and controversial art into art education to encourage critical thinking and self-expression. - **Psychology:** Exploring the impact of unsettling imagery on the human psyche and its potential therapeutic applications. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Surreal Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jeffrey-deitch-art-gallery.md) - [Abstract Geometric Solo Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/impermanent-state-of-being.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Surreal Love-Themed Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joakim-ojanen.md) - [Apocalypse Post Pandemic Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contemporary-urban-art.md) - [Stunning Origami Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-portaits.md) - [Archival Pigment Art Print](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/parallax.md) - [Avant-Garde Sculptural Editions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-edition.md) - [Artist-Painted Wine Labels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barton-guestier.md)
