# Serene Sailing Art The Jacob Hashimoto 'Armada' Installation is Haunting and Calming By Courtney Scharf | Published 2012-05-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jacob-hashimoto References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/jacob-hashimoto-armada) & [pbs.org](http://www.pbs.org/newshour/art/blog/2012/01/the-daily-frame-90.html) Uniform in color and immensely serene, the Jacob Hashimoto 'Armada' installation combines high visual impact with calm imagery. Hashimoto, who is based out of New York, is known for his work with natural materials. His newest release, which is making a tour across the blogosphere, is an absolute wonder to behold. Uniformly white and wooden, Armada feels like a wonderfully soothing break for the eyes, and seems to emit quietness. The installation features over 700 suspended sailboats, but somehow manages to avoid coming across as overly busy or distracting. Carefully designed to move in a calculated wave-live formation, the hanging boats remain calm even when there’s a bit of motion in the ocean. Gorgeously simple and remarkably exact, the Armada installation is a hushed but powerful creation. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.5/10 - Popularity: 51% | Activity: 15% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Natural Materials:** Opportunity for innovative and sustainable materials in various industries. - **Serenity in Art:** Potential for creating calming and immersive experiences in the art industry. - **Minimalist Installations:** Disruptive potential for creating impactful yet minimalist installations in various fields. ### Where This Applies - **Art:** Opportunity for artists to experiment with serene and minimalist installations. - **Interior Design:** Space for incorporating natural materials and calming art installations in design projects. - **Event Planning:** Potential for creating tranquil and visually appealing installations for events. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sailing Light Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sail-light.md) - [Maze-Like Salt Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-path-of-memories.md) - [Collaborative Sculptural Art Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neojomon-biomorphic-fantme.md) - [Interactive Kinetic Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-kinetic-sculptures.md) - [Monumental Air Installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape.md) - [Blooming Clustered Art Forms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/structural-botany.md) - [Recycled Ship Sail Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/breeze-installation.md) - [Urban Soundscape Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moment-installation.md) - [Eclipse-Themed Rooftop Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-zero.md)
