# Buoy-Inspired Lighting The Jack Lamp by Julia Reischel is a Calming, Tilting Light By Meghan Young | Published 2010-08-19 | Updated 2010-08-22 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jack-lamp References: [psfk](http://www.psfk.com/2010/08/pic-navigation-buoy-inspired-lamp.html) & [juliareischel](http://www.juliareischel.com/Julia) There's something innately calming about [rocking furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tap-tap-table-lamp), and the Jack Lamp is no exception. The design was inspired by [navigation buoys and harbors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sail-light), but it also evokes the image of [soothing waters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripple-light), which makes it doubly calming. Designed by Julia Reischel, the Jack Lamp features a "built-in motion sensor that dims the light depending on how much the lamp inclines," according to PSFK. A simple concept that is nevertheless incredibly interesting, I'm sure many would want this in their home. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.3/10 - Popularity: 34% | Activity: 28% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Motion-sensing Lighting:** Opportunity for designers to create lighting fixtures with built-in motion sensors that can adapt to the environment. - **Calming Product Design:** An opportunity for designers to create products that promote calmness and relaxation, through features like motion sensing and natural inspirations. - **Innovative Home Lighting:** Opportunity for businesses to develop lighting designs that provide unique and functional features that cater to the mood of customers. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** An opportunity for interior designers to incorporate calming products like the Jack Lamp in their designs, to promote relaxation and tranquility for their clients. - **Smart Home Technology:** An opportunity for companies to incorporate motion sensors and other IoT devices to create smart, adaptive lighting that enhances the home experience. - **Sustainable Lighting:** An opportunity to create energy-efficient and sustainable lighting designs using materials that are eco-friendly and recyclable. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Tornado-Inspired Illuminator Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/storm-lamp.md) - [Interactive Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tangent-lamp.md) - [Elegant Axis-Mounted Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pendulum-lamp.md) - [Umbrella-Inspired Whimsical Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wasaga-lamp.md) - [Poetic Rippling Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yurameki.md) - [Tiltable Dimmable Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nod-lamp.md) - [Inflatable Mood Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blow-lamp.md) - [Sensory Relaxation Smart Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/idiya-smart-lamp.md) - [Hollow Candle-Like Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lampe.md)
