# Empty Pool Photography J Bennet Fitts' 'No Lifeguard on Duty' Captures the End of Summer Fun By Marissa Brassfield | Published 2009-05-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/j-bennet-fitts-no-lifeguard-on-duty References: [booooooom](http://www.booooooom.com/2009/05/08/j-bennett-fitts-photography/) & [jbennettfitts](http://www.jbennettfitts.com/index.php) J Bennet Fitts' [photo series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/still-life-1) called 'No Lifeguard on Duty' focuses entirely on [empty pools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vetrite). It's a haunting set of images, for a number of reasons. Seeing an empty pool reminds me that summer's fun has ended, but I also wonder about the pool's owners. Have they emptied the pools because they're headed to their [winter chalets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-phoenix), or because they've been foreclosed upon and have moved out? What narratives can you imagine for each pool's owner? ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.7/10 - Popularity: 7% | Activity: 5% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Abandoned Pool Spaces:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Creating a new line of urban furniture/decoration using repurposed pool components to revive abandoned pool spaces into functional urban design. - **Destigmatizing Pool Closures:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Developing an online platform that connects government agencies and local residents to repurpose and transition closed pools into community-centric urban amenities for recreation and education. - **Pool Preservation:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Creating an AI-driven automated system that monitors and manages neglected pools to maintain safety and integrity while reducing water and maintenance costs. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Urban Design and Architecture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introducing a new line of urban furniture/decoration using repurposed pool components to revive abandoned pool spaces into functional urban design. - **Government and Civic Services:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Developing an online platform that connects government agencies and local residents to repurpose and transition closed pools into community-centric urban amenities for recreation and education. - **Real Estate and Property Development:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporating pool preservation AI technology to create environmentally conscious and sustainable practices in the real estate and property development industries. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Summer-Inspired Photo Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/summer-dreaming-collection.md) - [Asymmetrical Ultra-Compact Pools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/faraway-pool.md) - [Dramatic Doomsday Bunker Images](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alastair-philip-wiper.md) - [Skylight-Topped English Pool Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/malvern-pool-house.md) - [Fluid Basketball-Net Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swimming-pools-and-bubblegum.md) - [Colorful Tile Pool Loungers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cdm30-inflatable-pool-lounger.md) - [Pool-Inspired Tablecloth Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-piscine-tablecloth.md) - [Colorful Poolside Art Inflatables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cdm30.md) - [Customizable Tanning Pools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inflatable-tanning-pool.md)
