# Disguised Modern Homes The IVRV House's Standard Front Facade Gives Way to Modern Forms By Joey Haar | Published 2017-07-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ivrv-house References: [archdaily](http://www.archdaily.com/874907/ivrv-sci-arc-plus-darin-johnstone-architects) IVRV House, a family home in Westmont, California, doesn't look particularly striking from the street. Though it's covered with an uncommon [grey stucco](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/highland-park-residence) that stands out from the other houses on the block, its traditional gabled roof makes it look like countless homes around the world in terms of structure. However, IVRV House is deceptive in this manner, as the home looks completely different the further one goes onto the property. Firstly, IVRV House has an impressive [interior courtyard](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sanctum-house) that can only be accessed from the inside of the home or through the backyard. That courtyard is covered by a massive skylight striped with angled iron crossbeams. Then, upon entering the backyard, the visitor will see the home in an entirely different light, as the posterior facade has a unique and oblong shape that's distinctly modern. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.1/10 - Popularity: 90% | Activity: 55% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Deceptive Home Design:** Creating traditional-looking homes that conceal modern and innovative interiors and backyards. - **Interior Courtyards:** Designing indoor/outdoor living spaces that are covered with large skylights and unique features. - **Unique Posterior Facades:** Incorporating modern and distinct design elements into less conventional areas of the home's exterior. ### Where This Applies - **Real Estate:** Providing homebuyers with modern and innovative design options that challenge traditional home design. - **Architecture:** Designing unique and innovative homes that incorporate traditional and modern design elements while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic. - **Construction:** Constructing unique and innovative homes that incorporate non-traditional design elements and features. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Rural Charred Modern Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stanfordville-house.md) - [Hidden Resort Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stealth-1.md) - [Refined Modern Dwellings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/silver-house.md) - [Asian Material Suburban Residents](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-ridge-house.md) - [Private Lifestyle Minimal Bungalows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/southwestern-residence.md) - [Reimagined Retro Californian Ranch](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/destination-eichler.md) - [Patio-Centering Villa Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-tres-patis.md) - [Anticipatory Architectural Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vulcan-house.md) - [Compact White-Painted Modern Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/whitepainted-modern-home.md)
