# Next-Gen Soldier Gear ITT Corp Lets Us in On the Future of Night Vision Technology By Omar Yusuf | Published 2011-09-18 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/itt-corp References: [gizmodo](http://gizmodo.com/5840097/the-secret-future-of-night-vision-tech) & [wired](http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2011/09/night-vision?pid=799) ITT Corp is perhaps the world's largest diversified manufacturer, producing everything from household appliances to military ordnance. In the hopes of pushing the envelope ever further, the multinational has shown glimpses of its newest night vision technology. In short: it's phenomenal and scary all at once. The future soldier depicted in pop media isn't so far away -- in fact, Iron Man and the Starship Troopers might not be fictitious for too long. ITT Corp has already issued new [night vision goggles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dvx-night-storm-x1) to select U.S. military outfits that are capable of [infrared detection](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thermal-monocular1), allowing soldiers to pick up heat signatures from camouflaged insurgents. Newer models of the headpiece come equipped with networking and [facial recognition technology](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eyetracking-solution). This means that in the midst of a firefight, the mugshot of a wanted enemy or footage from remote drones can be superimposed onto the trooper's vision. Today's soldier is no longer just a man with a weapon -- we've gone way beyond that paradigm. Instead, the modern warrior operates in a whirlwind of information, is never alone and ostensibly has superhuman senses attached. Cool, isn't it? ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.0/10 - Popularity: 11% | Activity: 11% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Next-gen Night Vision:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop advanced night vision technology with networking and facial recognition capabilities for military and defense applications. - **Infrared Detection:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create infrared detection systems that can pick up heat signatures from camouflaged individuals, providing an edge for military operations. - **Augmented Soldier:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design soldier gear that integrates information and sensory enhancements to enhance combat effectiveness and situational awareness. ### Who This Affects Most - **Military Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Collaborate with defense organizations to develop cutting-edge technology and equipment for modern warfare. - **Defense Electronics:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create advanced networking and facial recognition systems specifically tailored for military applications. - **Tactical Gear:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Invent innovative gear and equipment that integrates information and sensory capabilities to enhance the performance of soldiers on the battlefield. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [AI-Fueled Night-Vision Goggles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seemor.md) - [Superhuman Sight AR Glasses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/utrack-ar.md) - [Range-Roving Sniper Scopes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sniper-scope.md) - [Tech-Advanced Thermal Monoculars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thermal-monoculars.md) - [Next-Generation Thermal Imaging Innovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thermal-imaging-innovation.md) - [Modular Canine Helmets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canine-helmet.md) - [4K Night-Vision Binoculars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nightvision-binoculars.md) - [Budget Night Vision Binoculars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cigman-cnvpro-binoculars.md) - [Night Vision Driving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/auto-ai-night-vision-system-infiray-nv2.md)
