# Mod Beehive Buffets The It Barrel Opens Up to Reveal Nested Items for Eating and Drinking By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-11-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/it-barrel References: [tcherassi-vilato](http://www.tcherassi-vilato.com/FU-it_barrel.html) The It Barrel definitely does not take a simple form, otherwise we might discover more objects a little bit like it. This design is certainly unique, taking an organic shape that's comparable to that of a wasp nest. Designer Tcherassi Vilató was thinking outside of the box with this wonderfully rounded creation. With a structure of metal, the [hybrid side table](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dog-crate-and-end-table) is clad with wooden tiles that interlock to afford a nearly spherical effect. The continuous surface is smooth and warm, yet it hinges open into a pair of [winged drawers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taarof-table) and reveals a bowl-like bottom where you can stash even more. Gilded with gold or bronze on the inside, the It Barrel expresses itself as an object of luxury. It can be used as a [miniature cocktail bar](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rolly-bar-cart), or as an opulent storage compartment for all sorts of things. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.9/10 - Popularity: 87% | Activity: 83% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Organic-shaped Furniture:** There is an opportunity for furniture designers to create unique, organic-shaped pieces that also serve functional purposes. - **Luxury Storage:** There is a growing demand for storage solutions that also serve as luxurious home decor pieces. - **Multipurpose Furniture:** Designers can explore opportunities to create furniture pieces that serve several functions in one item. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** Furniture designers can explore using organic shapes and luxury materials to create functional storage pieces. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate unique, multipurpose pieces into their design plans for clients who value luxury and functionality. - **Luxury Home Decor:** Luxury home decor companies can create furniture pieces that serve multiple functions while providing a luxurious aesthetic to spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Bent Multi-Functional Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-shell-table.md) - [Wine-Catered Vibrant Artful Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wine-table.md) - [Wine Storage Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roll-side-table.md) - [Modular Architectural Wine Racks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barrique-bottle-holder.md) - [All-in-One Timber Bar Carts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moba-drinks-trolley.md) - [Unique Burl-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/don-heston-studio.md) - [Anthropomorphic Design Dining Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sideboard-dining-table.md) - [Metallic Multifunctional Storage Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kabine-101.md) - [Twisted Wooden Boxed Sideboard](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deniz-aktay.md)
