The chips are the show's fictional version of what a USB storage system would be today. The coasters are made using clear plastic in technicolor shades such as orange and green. The slabs are printed with detailed microchip designs that copy the different chip reader elements using a special paint that harnesses light and illuminates in the dark. The plastic make ensures these coasters are incredibly easy to clean. The coasters are ideal for Star Trek watchers and are marketed to both new and old fans that watched the series in its early days or the revived films released this year. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.0/10 - Popularity: 12% | Activity: 10% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Glow-in-the-dark Coasters:** Opportunity for creating unique drink holders that glow in the dark, enhancing the drinking experience. - **Sci-fi Inspired Design:** Opportunity to incorporate futuristic and fictional designs into everyday products, appealing to fans of popular science fiction series. - **Technicolor Plastic:** Opportunity to explore the use of vibrant technicolor shades in the manufacturing of coasters and other plastic products. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for home decor companies to offer unique and themed drink holders for customers. - **Entertainment Merchandise:** Opportunity for merchandise companies to create sci-fi inspired products, targeting fans of popular TV series and movies. - **Plastics Manufacturing:** Opportunity for plastic manufacturing companies to explore innovative materials and printing techniques for creating visually striking and functional coasters. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sci-Fi Film Franchise Drinkware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/picard-tea-cup-set.md) - [Aquatic Beverage Coasters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crab-inspired-coasters.md) - [Sci-Fi Show Drinking Vessels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corkcicle-x-star-wars.md) - [Turntable-Inspired Coaster Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/needledrop-coaster-set.md) - [Glow‑In‑Dark Tech Skins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/circuit-board-device.md) - [Barbie-Inspired Coaster Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barbieinspired-coaster-set.md) - [Sci-Fi-Themed Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/firecuda-external-hard-drives.md) - [Astrological Drinkware Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zodiac-constellation-coasters.md) - [Sci-Fi Media Playsets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buildabridge-mini-bridge.md)
