# Open-Bottomed Sofas The Island Seating System is as Breezy as its Name Suggests By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-10-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/island-seating-system References: [furniturefashion](http://www.furniturefashion.com/framework-flexible-design-island-seating-system/) & [paolalenti.it](http://www.paolalenti.it/prodotto/show/island/) The Island Seating System presents a much lighter solution to a hefty request. When you're shopping around for furnishings to accommodate multiple sitters, you often end up with quite bulky options. This [outdoor sofa](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/africa-sofa) is unique in its rather skeletal design. The frame is made from bent tubular metal wrapped all the way underneath it. Another great feature of Francesco Rota's design for Paola Lenti is the [modularity of the collection](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flow-seating). It comes with several different pieces, including some with or without backrests and armrests. You can create [patio couches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aire-modular-sofa) as large and as small as required; ottomans are even available for added comfort. The Island Seating System is heavy enough to withstand weather, and remains open for the passage of gentle summer breezes below. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 38% | Activity: 5% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Modular Outdoor Furniture:** The Island Seating System's modularity offers the opportunity to create customizable outdoor seating arrangements. - **Lightweight Furniture Design:** The skeletal design of the Island Seating System demonstrates the potential for creating lighter, more portable furniture options. - **Weather-resistant Outdoor Furniture:** The Island Seating System's ability to withstand weather conditions presents an opportunity for developing durable outdoor furniture solutions. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Outdoor Furniture Manufacturing:** Manufacturers of outdoor furniture can explore the production of modular seating systems like the Island Seating System. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate lightweight furniture designs inspired by the Island Seating System into their projects. - **Hospitality and Resort Industry:** Hotels and resorts can benefit from weather-resistant outdoor furniture options like the Island Seating System, providing comfortable seating for guests in outdoor spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Modular Sofa Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hybla.md) - [Modern Cushioned Outdoor Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pod-outdoor-seating.md) - [Arab Hospotality-Inspired Modular Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/insula-sofa.md) - [Modular Liberating Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aire-modular.md) - [Arab Majlis-Inspired Modular Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/insula.md) - [Sculptural Outdoor Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbit-outdoor-furniture.md) - [Flexible Landscape-Like Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airberg-sofa-collection.md) - [Modernist Modular Outdoor Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dongo-garden-sofa.md) - [Capacious Outdoor Sofa Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/africa-sofa.md)
