Architect Kawashima Mayumi designed this [irregularly shaped home](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modus-architect) for a family in Kobouchizawa, Japan.

Sitting on a [southern slope of the Yatsugatake mountains](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-the-slope), the house is oriented so that each room faces a different mountain or woodland view. Thanks to a radial plan, a [variety of different peaks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mountainous-home) (Mount Fuji, Mount Kaikoma and Mount Kisokama) are visible, earning it the appellation 'House for Viewing Mountains.'

Mayumi explains, "Since it is not an urban site, there are almost no external factors determining the design, so we could decide the form from the interior. We decided the position of windows on the outer wall by thinking about which mountains [the family] will want to look at from their windows. And we subdivided the room sequentially."
