# Outdoor Fire Totems The Iron Maiden is a Beautifully Rustic Vertical Hearth By Andrew Robertson | Published 2012-05-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iron-maiden-by-wout-wessemius References: [wessemius.nl](http://www.wessemius.nl/) The Iron Maiden by Wout Wessemius acts like a [vertical fire pit](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ninja-fireside360). The design is made entirely out of steel, comprising of a [rusty tube](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-ferro-capsule) mounted atop a solid base with a revolving piece allowing it to be angled however you wish. The beautiful outline of the sculpture is impressive on its own, but it's when you light a fire inside the Iron Maiden that it becomes truly captivating by giving off a crimson radiance. Once the fire inside has been extinguished, the tube slowly changes from a red-hot glow to a charcoal black, giving life to the sculpture after the fire has died out. The diameter of the tube is 275mm with a height of 2650mm -- perfect for areas where there isn't enough space for a wide fire pit.
