# Hi-Tech Rocking Chairs The iRock by Micasa Lab Has a Built-In iPad Dock and Sound System By Meghan Young | Published 2012-10-31 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/irock-by-micasa-lab References: [core77](http://www.core77.com/blog/furniture_design/a_chair_for_disaster-related_boredom_relief_23753.asp) & [irocknow.ch](http://www.irocknow.ch/) The iRock by Micasa Lab is not made for the average grandparent. In fact, the designers make this mighty apparent on their website, writing, "Hey pops, the times are a-changing. Gone are the days when you could impress the friends with your old oak rocking-chair." A modernized version, this rocking chair is chock full of features that will win over any tech lover. Outfitted with a self-sufficient [iPad](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shiftwave-pro) and [iPhone](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/retro-aesthetics-and-modern-technology) dock on one arm and sound system on the back, sitting in the iRock by Micasa Lab will not result in taking an impromptu nap. Instead, people can rock away while enjoying some music, movies, games and more. Of course, that rocking serves a greater purpose. The rocking chair uses kinetic energy to charge whatever device is plugged in. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.9/10 - Popularity: 83% | Activity: 87% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Smart Furniture:** The iRock by Micasa Lab is an example of furniture that combines technology and functionality, creating disruptive innovation opportunities in the smart furniture trend. - **Connected Homes:** The iRock by Micasa Lab is a clear indication of the growing demand for connected homes, providing opportunities for businesses to develop related products and services. - **Kinetic Energy-powered Devices:** The iRock by Micasa Lab's use of kinetic energy to charge devices suggests a trend towards kinetic energy-powered devices, presenting opportunities to create similar products to meet rising demand. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture:** The iRock by Micasa Lab is an example of how furniture companies can incorporate technology into products to enhance customer experience and create new market opportunities for smart furniture. - **Consumer Electronics:** The iRock by Micasa Lab's built-in iPad dock and sound system create opportunities for businesses in the consumer electronics industry to develop complementary products and expand their market offerings. - **Renewable Energy:** The iRock by Micasa Lab's use of kinetic energy to charge devices presents opportunities for businesses in the renewable energy industry to develop similar products and services to meet increasing consumer demand for sustainable energy solutions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Tech-Infused Egg Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arne-jacobsen.md) - [Voice-Enabled Recliner Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sitjoy-smartsofa.md) - [Rocking Table-Mounted Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/espattio-platero-rocking-table.md) - [Wooden Lounge Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nice-chair.md) - [Youth-Ready Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ready-rocker-1.md) - [All-Ages Portable Rockers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ready-rocker.md) - [Contemporary Rocking Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/penguin-rocking-chair.md) - [Otherworldly Themed Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ufo-rocking.md) - [Opulent Robotic Gamer Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moiin-robodesk-gaming-chair.md)
