# Tablet Teacup Companions This iPad Saucer Lets You Ponder the Physical and Virtual Worlds Over Tea By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-12-05 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ipad-saucer References: [neatorama](http://www.neatorama.com/2011/12/03/the-isaucer/) & [flickr](http://www.flickr.com/photos/norahabdulaziz/6441345873/in/set-72157626281643505) The most fascinating technologies are able to merge the virtual and physical worlds in remarkably enlightening ways. This [iPad](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/secondgeneration-hoverbar-duo) saucer may not strictly fall within this category but its humorous attempt to reference this relationship makes it utterly enthralling. Norah Abdulaziz took these photographs of a pair of hands holding a tablet with a [cup of tea](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-tea-infuser) on top. The screen of the iPad quite simply features a digital image of a [white porcelain plate](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/office-of-tangible-spaces), just about the perfect size to mirror the length and width of a real three dimensional saucer. A matching ceramic mug sitting in the center of the cyber dish makes the iPad saucer a compelling image. It encourages a simultaneously serious and silly dialogue about our complex artificial environment and the way that past traditions and contemporary obsessions can be carried out concurrently. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 43% | Activity: 37% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Virtual-physical Merging:** Creating new devices that integrate the virtual and physical worlds in creative ways, like the iPad saucer, can lead to disruptive innovation opportunities in the tech industry. - **Humorous Referencing:** Incorporating a sense of humor into new product designs can help capture consumers' attention and create unique experiences in the retail industry. - **Conceptual Dialogue:** Developing products and technologies that encourage thoughtful conversations about the relationship between tradition and modern society can lead to disruptive innovation in society and culture. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Tech Industry:** New innovations that merge virtual and physical worlds like the iPad saucer could disrupt the tech industry and lead to new business opportunities. - **Retail Industry:** Incorporating humor into product designs can lead to disruptive innovation in the retail industry by capturing consumers' attention and providing unique experiences. - **Culture and Society:** Developing products that encourage conceptual dialogue about tradition and modern society can disrupt cultural norms and lead to new social innovations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sensor-Guided Tea Cups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soundsip.md) - [Surrealist-Inspired Tea Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tea-for-two-collection.md) - [Augmented Reality Kitchenware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/long-distance-message-mug-coaster.md) - [Digital Craft Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-and-design-miami.md) - [Effortless Tea Brewing Cups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cuptone-teacup.md) - [AI-Enhanced Smart Mugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pixelmug.md) - [Modular Porcelain Cups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corcelain.md) - [Relaxing Countertop Tea Brewers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-tea-maker.md) - [Cup-Integrated Plates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pairingware.md)
