# Buttonless Fingerprint Sensors This Invisible Fingerprint Sensor is Hidden Beneath Glass By Katherine Pendrill | Published 2016-05-02 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/invisible-fingerprint-sensor References: [engadget](http://www.engadget.com/2016/05/02/lg-fingerprint-sensor-under-glass/) & [lginnotek](http://www.lginnotek.com/community/news_view.jsp?seq=611) [LG](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transparent-antenna) recently announced that it developed an invisible fingerprint sensor that doesn't require a designated button. One of the problems with current fingerprint sensors is that they take up space on the front of the phone or they are awkwardly positioned making them difficult to use. LG has solved these problems by creating a fingerprint sensor that is integrated into the screen of the phone. The new fingerprint scanner from LG Innoteck consists of a tiny sensor hidden beneath the cover glass on a smartphone. This means that instead of pressing a button, users simply tap the screen in order to unlock their device. Not only is the sensor easier to use, but it is also more accurate than other [biometric log-in systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/desloc-b200). While it isn't clear when LG will add the invisible fingerprint sensor to its products, the technology will help the company save valuable surface space on its smartphone and other mobile devices. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 65% | Activity: 47% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Invisible Fingerprint Sensors:** The innovation of invisible fingerprint sensors allows for more seamless and aesthetically pleasing design in mobile devices. - **Integration of Fingerprint Sensors:** The integration of fingerprint sensors into the screen eliminates the need for dedicated buttons, enhancing user experience and usability. - **Improved Biometric Log-in Systems:** The development of more accurate biometric log-in systems enhances device security and user authentication. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Mobile Device Manufacturing:** Mobile device manufacturers can leverage invisible fingerprint sensors to differentiate their products and improve user satisfaction. - **Biometric Security Technology:** The integration of fingerprint sensors into devices opens new opportunities in the field of biometric security technology. - **Consumer Electronics:** The innovation of invisible fingerprint sensors presents disruptive opportunities in the consumer electronics industry, particularly in smartphones and tablets. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Fingerprint-Scanning Payment Cards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/biometric-payment-cards.md) - [Palm Print Authentication Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/realme-gt5-pro.md) - [Inclusive Smartphone Prototype Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onebuttonpin.md) - [Biometric Scanner Smart Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lockly-flex-touch.md) - [Biometric Bank-Grade Door Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/securam-touch.md) - [Invisible Vehicle Antennas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transparent-antenna.md) - [Touch-Free Screen Technologies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/touchnetix.md) - [Fingerprint-Scanning Water Dispensers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/water-dispenser-concept.md) - [Fingerprint-Scanning Door Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wyze-lock-bolt.md)
