[BuzzFeed](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bf-island) writer Lauren Yapalater tested her mom's knowledge on popular [Internet slang terms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/techbro-handbook). The result? Let's just say that this series is proof that you should never underestimate the entertainment that clueless parents can provide you.

So what are the terms that are in heavy rotation with the kids these days? Abbreviations like "bae," "tbh" and "GTFO" are often used to communicate through [text and social media](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emojitalk). Yapalater's mom tried her best to identify each of these terms, but (thankfully for us) missed the mark on most of them. She guessed that Bae stands for Break and Enter; its real meaning is "Before Anyone Else," and it's used to affectionately refer to your boo-thang.

However, Mama Yapalater got pretty close when it came to GTFO, guessing that it stands for "Get the F*ck Off." Not bad!
