# Mirrored Sand Cone Sculptures The Interactive Sand Reflecting Cone Turns Desert Sand into Art By Amy Duong | Published 2026-03-06 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-sand-reflecting-cone References: [michaeljantzen](http://michaeljantzen.com/) The Interactive Sand Reflecting Cone is a conceptual public installation designed by Michael Jantzen that transforms sand into an interactive artistic medium. The structure consists of a 12-foot mirrored cone placed at the center of a circular sand field enclosed by a concrete ring with steps leading into the space. Visitors can walk across the sand and create patterns with their feet or hands, which are reflected and distorted across the curved mirrored surface of the cone. The reflections shift constantly as the sand is reshaped by each participant. The installation is designed for desert landscapes, where the sand inside the circular base becomes the primary interactive material. The cone is clad in polished mirrored steel that reflects the surrounding environment while amplifying the temporary marks left by visitors. Solar panels mounted at the top charge batteries that power lighting integrated into the base, allowing the piece to glow at night.
