Rather than relying on traditional explanations, the free app allows young users to examine animated zoo animals, practicing activities such as measuring height, checking blood pressure, and performing throat examinations. This approach helps children understand unfamiliar clinical experiences before attending appointments. The experience extends beyond home use through QR codes displayed in medical waiting areas, allowing children to reconnect with familiar characters throughout their visits. Developed through a collaboration between California Institute of the Arts and Reimagine Well, the project received funding from Child's Play Charities and was initially implemented at Boys Town National Research Hospital. For healthcare providers, Healthy Zoo offers an accessible educational resource that could improve patient engagement. Its free, registration-free design also removes barriers for families seeking supportive preparation tools.
