The glowing socket is a design for something we use every day but rarely give any thought to. The socket works like a regular one except it has a built in electricity meter that shows the amount of power being used. The glowing socket was designed by Shane Ellis and Terry Brown. **Implications** - The two designers placed a hidden LED light inside the sockets which enable the whole thing to light up. The more power traveling through the socket, the brighter the socket glows red. If you don't want the light to shine, you can always press a button on top of the socket to shut it off. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 18% | Activity: 22% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Glowing Socket:** Opportunity for integrating electricity meters into everyday appliances and devices. - **Eco-application:** Potential for designing eco-friendly products that encourage sustainable energy usage. - **Hidden LED Technology:** Advancement in LED technology creating opportunities for innovative lighting solutions. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Electrical Appliances:** Potential for incorporating electricity meters into various electrical appliances for energy monitoring. - **Home Improvement:** Opportunity for integrating eco-friendly and energy-efficient solutions into the home improvement industry. - **Lighting:** Demand for hidden LED technology in various lighting applications, from residential to commercial spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Smart Rgb Power Outlets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/invisoutlet-aura.md) - [Modular Self-Monitoring Power Cubes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/teak-smart-cube.md) - [Modular Power Strip Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nodes.md) - [Sustainable Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/geolectric-lantern.md) - [Socket-Concealing Light Switches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/l1-switch-system.md) - [Illuminated Charger Design Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/current-concept.md) - [Artfully Dynamic Power Strips](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aunion.md) - [Glowing Power-Free Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nisshoku.md) - [Soil-Powered Light Sources](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soli.md)
