# Skewed Slat Illuminators The Innerlight by Simon Pengelly is the Overlap of Pretty and Practical By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-10-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/innerlight-by-simon-pengelly References: [blog.leibal](http://blog.leibal.com/products/lighting/innerlight/) & [pengellydesign](http://www.pengellydesign.com/innerlight.html) It isn't to say that light fixtures are rarely attractive -- many are. The Innerlight by Simon Pengelly is simply rather successful at masquerading as a sculpture, giving it value even when it isn't illuminated. The bulb of the stylish [Foscarini](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foscarini-lava-lamps) piece is concealed behind three small polycarbonate fins that overlap slightly lopsidedly for a hint of visual intrigue. A gentle outward curve to the bands lets the rays behind them escape subtly through the center of the [wall light shade](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/impulse-wall-light). A lovely diffuse halo forms around and behind the fixture, offering a soft ambient atmosphere. A row of these elegant illuminating elements fulfills the function of art. Whether off or on, the Innerlight by Simon Pengelly is a brilliant accessory for the contemporary interior. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.2/10 - Popularity: 26% | Activity: 3% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Sculptural Light Fixtures:** Opportunities to create light fixtures that are not just functional but also visually appealing art pieces. - **Intriguing Overlapping Designs:** Incorporating overlap designs in various products to add visual interest and a unique aesthetic appeal. - **Ambient Lighting with Halo Effect:** Creating light fixtures that offer not just direct lighting but also ambient lighting with a halo effect that enhances the overall atmosphere of a space. ### Who This Affects Most - **Interior Design:** Opportunities for interior designers to incorporate sculptural light fixtures to enhance the overall look and feel of the space and create a unique ambiance. - **Lighting:** Opportunities for lighting manufacturers to experiment with intriguing overlapping designs and create fixtures that offer ambient lighting with a halo effect. - **Furniture Design:** Opportunities for furniture designers to incorporate sculptural light fixtures into their designs to create a cohesive and visually interesting space. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Simplistic Angular Desktop Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linear-table-lamp.md) - [Illusory Multidimensional Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drop-light.md) - [Illusory Modernist Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/teline-collection-by-kelly-wearstler.md) - [Glowing Tubular Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/array-lighting.md) - [Otherworldly Lighting Fixture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/otherworldly-lighting-fixture.md) - [Wall-Mounted Ambient Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ikea-varmblixt-collection.md) - [Suspended Halo Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lamplox-minimalist-floor-lamp.md) - [Artistic Ribbon-Like Ceiling Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-fellas-ceiling-light.md) - [Suspended Origami-Like Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sora-light.md)
