# Ink-Saving Typefaces The Ecofont Makes Each Cartridge Last 20% Longer By Michael Plishka | Published 2008-12-13 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ink-saving-typefonts-the-ecofont References: [ecofont.eu](http://www.ecofont.eu/) How much can you take away from a picture before it becomes unrecognizable? The folks at the Dutch company SPRANQ took this challenge to font design and have come up with a way to make a font that uses 20% less ink. Called the Ecofont, it's made by placing little holes inside the lines of the font so that when printed at 10 pt or less, it looks like a solid line. SPRANQ isn't looking to make money off the product, so it's giving away the font for free. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 19% | Activity: 28% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Ink-saving Typefaces:** Ink-saving typefaces can help reduce ink consumption by up to 20%. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Printing Industry:** The printing industry can benefit from adopting ink-saving typefaces to minimize ink usage and cost. - **Eco-friendly Products:** Ink-saving typefaces offer an eco-friendly solution for businesses interested in reducing their environmental impact. - **Graphic Design Industry:** Graphic designers can explore ink-saving typefaces as a way to create visually appealing designs while minimizing ink usage. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Digital E Ink Typwriters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zerowriter-ink.md) - [Paper-Saving Printer Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roller-jet-printer.md) - [3D-Printed E Ink Typewriters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tapico-typer.md) - [Quirky Snack-Inspired Fonts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cheetos-other-hand-font.md) - [Refillable Tank Desktop Printers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hp-smart-tank-7000.md) - [Paper Waste Reduction Printers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/handheld-printer-concept.md) - [Eco Eye-Friendly Display Technologies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hannspree-ecovision-paper-display.md) - [Provocative Eco Screensavers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/planetsaving-screen-savers.md) - [Energy-Saving Beer Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ad-that-saves-energy.md)
