# Elevated Steel Saunas This Unusual Public Sauna is Located in an Industrial Harbor By Katherine Pendrill | Published 2015-11-12 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/industrial-harbor References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2015/11/11/raumlabor-industrial-sauna-gothenburg-port-sweden/) & [raumlabor.net](http://raumlabor.net/goteborg-bathing-culture/) The '[Gothenburg Public Sauna](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/centralbadet)' is a unusual public spa that is located in the middle of an industrial harbor. When most people think of a day at the spa, they tend to think of a pristine building located in peaceful setting. This sauna offers a unique spa experience that is unlike any other. The Gothenburg Public Sauna was designed by the Berlin-based collective 'Raumlabor.' The sauna is raised above the water and only accessible via a wooden bridge connected to the shore. The exterior is made from [rusty corrugated steel](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/upcycled-sauna) that gives the building an industrial appearance. Despite the uninviting exterior, the inside of the building is warm and comfortable. The sauna boosts a beautiful timber-lined interior and windows that look out over the industrial harbor. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.6/10 - Popularity: 77% | Activity: 24% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Industrial Saunas:** Opportunities for creating spa experiences in unconventional, gritty locations. - **Elevated Architecture:** Innovative approaches to building structures in unexpected places. - **Minimalist Design:** Reducing the number of design elements and focusing on simplicity and functionality in building structures. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Hospitality:** Building public saunas at unconventional locations, such as industrial areas, to offer guests unique experiences. - **Architecture:** Designing elevated and industrial structures with a minimalist approach and focusing on functionality. - **Wellness:** Bringing together industry and architecture to design unconventional spa experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Reflection-Inducing Floating Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trosten-floating-sauna.md) - [Floating Sauna Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/watercave.md) - [Shipping Container Floating Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fjord-floating-sauna.md) - [Floating Travelling Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/big-branzino.md) - [Modern Mobile Sauna Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aquila-sauna.md) - [View-Overlooking Portable Wooden Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/saunabivak.md) - [Timber Sauna Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jonas-sauna.md) - [Mobile Sauna Trailers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-aquila.md) - [Public Sauna Festivals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/culture-of-bathe-ing.md)
