The bench is achieved with a dark frame that's wrapped with a [single piece of plywood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paul-coenen-1) to offer space to sit, while also enhancing the aesthetic nature of the furniture piece. The decorative bench thus strikes a balance between function and form for the onlooker to admire and appreciate within their living space. The conceptual 'Serpentin' indoor bench is described by Hoogendijk as highlighting a technomimicry form that, "mimics function of human-made objects." What's created is a [functional furniture piece](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/columns) that can also be used as a garment rack thanks to the edge corners. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.2/10 - Popularity: 90% | Activity: 24% | Freshness: 13% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Wrapped Furniture:** Designing functional furniture pieces using a single piece of plywood for an enhanced aesthetic nature. - **Technomimicry Furniture:** Designing furniture pieces that mimics the function of human-made objects, adding value beyond a typical use case scenario. - **Functional Decorative Furniture:** Designing furniture pieces that balances function and form, providing unique expressive value to the owner's living space. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture:** Innovative designs can enhance the aesthetic nature of furniture and add value beyond a typical use case scenario. - **Interior Design:** Incorporating creative furniture pieces in unique ways can add value to people's living spaces. - **Home Decor:** Decorative furniture pieces can add unique value expressions to the owner's living space. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Paper Cord-Wrapped Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-bench.md) - [Cocoon-Inspired Bench Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gandan-bench.md) - [Sustainable Paper-Infused Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/detalji-bench.md) - [Chic Recycled Aluminum Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bello-bench.md) - [Elegantly Airy Outdoor Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arch-bench.md) - [Leather Strap Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stacked-bench.md) - [Dual Sculpture Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immaterial-0001.md) - [Sleek Public Seating Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leftover-bench.md) - [Bold Patterned Tubular Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leopard-bench.md)
