# Riotous Furniture Designs The 'In Case of Riot Coffee Table' is Perfect for Impromptu Protests By Michael Hines | Published 2011-12-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/in-case-of-riot-coffee-table References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2011/12/22/in-case-of-riot-by-max-arlestig-and-maximilian-gebhardt/) & [max-and-max](http://www.max-and-max.com/) Occupy protesters may want to consider furnishing their camps with the 'In Case of Riot' coffee table. The coffee table is designed with a built-in riot shield in case protests turn ugly. The In Case of Riot coffee table was designed by the New York-based design duo Max Arlestig and Maximilian Gebhardt. The table itself is made of [metal tubing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barred-collection) and actually looks pretty captivating with the shield inserted. The shield itself is a standard plastic riot shield that looks as tough as any other. With the amount of riots happening around the world, the designers may want to consider a limited production run of this protective table. You never know when you're going to be facing an angry protester or police officer after all. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 51% | Activity: 40% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Riotous Furniture Designs:** The 'In Case of Riot Coffee Table' showcases the trend of incorporating safety features into everyday furniture and decor. - **Impromptu Protests:** The rise in impromptu protests has led to a demand for furniture designs that can provide protection and safety during such events. - **Limited Production Run:** The demand for protective furniture like the 'In Case of Riot Coffee Table' presents a disruptive innovation opportunity for limited production runs in the furniture industry. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** The furniture design industry can embrace the trend of incorporating safety features into their products, catering to consumers concerned about safety during protests or social unrest. - **Protest Safety Equipment:** The growing need for safety equipment during protests presents an opportunity for the protest safety equipment industry to collaborate with furniture designers to create innovative and effective designs. - **Home Security:** The trend of incorporating protective features into furniture gives the home security industry an opportunity to explore new partnerships and product offerings to enhance safety and security in residential spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dynamic Strong Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sharp-table.md) - [Shimmering Oceanic Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/liquid-table.md) - [Artful Coffee Table Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vertushka.md) - [Dynamic Coffee Table Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ryb-coffee-table.md) - [Blurred Bold Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blur-coffee-table.md) - [Whimsical Utility Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roach-clip-side-table.md) - [Communal Fireplace Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hearth-coffee-table.md) - [Industrial Strength Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/intra-side-table.md) - [Wavy Sculptural Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-coffee-tables.md)
