Photographer Peter Beste has documented the culture around Norwegian Black Metal, a violent subculture which emerged in the early 1990’s that is based in Satanism and extreme heavy metal. Some members of this [extreme underground sect](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wildest-ones-yet) have been known to burn down medieval wooden churches or commit evil acts like murder.

The resulting images were published in his book ‘True Norwegian Black Metal’ along with a [collection of essays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amusebouche) on the subjects. The results are scarily fascinating and include scenes such as members being doused in warm cow’s blood prior to stage performances.
