# Optically Altering Side Tables These Illusion Tables by Essey Appear to be Magically Floating By Jessica Marren | Published 2013-05-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/illusion-tables References: [fancy](http://fancy.com/things/298745977/Illusion-Side-Table) These illusion tables by Essey are a wonderfully different addition to any space. These magical illusion tables were inspired by cafes where white table clothes are often draped over dinning surfaces to add elegance and atmosphere. The Essey illusion tables are handmade -- this means they all differ slightly from one another. The tables are crafted from [hard plastic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/draga-aurel) and [appear to be floating in space](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lp-lamp). The plastic—which is available in white, black, red and clear—resembles delicately draping creases of a fabric table cloth. The illusion tables would make a great addition to any modern space. I am partial to the dusty white color option because it resembles a creepy little ghost floating by your bedside. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 80% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Illusion Furniture:** The trend of illusion furniture presents opportunities to create unique and visually captivating pieces that challenge traditional notions of design. - **Handmade Craftsmanship:** The trend of handmade craftsmanship opens the door for personalized and one-of-a-kind products that cater to individual tastes and preferences. - **Minimalist Design:** The trend of minimalist design invites innovation in creating sleek and functional furniture that enhances the visual aesthetics of any space. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Manufacturing:** The furniture manufacturing industry can explore disruptive innovation opportunities by incorporating optical illusions in their product designs, providing customers with unique and visually striking pieces. - **Interior Design:** In the field of interior design, professionals can embrace the trend of illusion furniture to transform spaces and create immersive and imaginative environments for their clients. - **Home Decor Retail:** Home decor retailers can capitalize on the trend of minimalistic design and handmade craftsmanship by curating a selection of stylish and personalized furniture that appeals to modern consumers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Fabric-Like Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tablecloth-side-table.md) - [Illusory Cracked Base Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conceptual-side-table.md) - [Optical-Illusion Home Decor Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sevval-kalaycikli.md) - [Optically-Designed Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/enigma-coffee-tables.md) - [Acrylic Multicolor Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lucid-side-tables.md) - [Shimmering Oceanic Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/liquid-table.md) - [Glass Surfaced Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/illusion-collection.md) - [Frosted Light Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zen-collection-1.md) - [Playful Accent Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bug-table.md)
