# Conjoined Laptop Concepts The 'If Convertible' Combines a Laptop, Smartphone and Tablet into One By Michael Hines | Published 2013-12-05 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/if-convertible References: [gizmag](http://www.gizmag.com/if-convertible-ultrabook-tablet-smartphone/29997/) & [idealfuture](http://www.idealfuture.com/) The 'If Convertible' is easily one of the most ambitious laptops/tablets/smartphones. Ideal Future's [concept device is essentially a laptop](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/auto-twist-ai-pc) with [two independent screens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lenovo-thinkbook-flip), with one that can be rotated and detached. The idea behind the If Convertible is that your laptop and smartphone/tablet (phablet) shouldn't be standalone devices. The If Convertible's main draw is the ability to detach its second screen and use it as a smartphone/tablet. When combined, the two screens stand 7 inches and are 12 inches wide. The base (laptop) will be powered by either Ubuntu or Windows and the smartphone/tablet will be powered by Android. Ideal Future is currently seeking $100,000 of funding on Indiegogo, but it promises to fulfill all orders by July 2014 even if its goal isn't hit. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.1/10 - Popularity: 69% | Activity: 46% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Convergent Devices:** The 'If Convertible' concept highlights the increasing trend of combining multiple devices into one. - **Flexible Screens:** The detachable and rotatable screen feature of the 'If Convertible' showcases the emerging trend of flexible screens in technology devices. - **Platform Integration:** The integration of multiple operating systems (Ubuntu, Windows, Android) in the 'If Convertible' points to the trend of platform convergence in devices. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Technology:** The 'If Convertible' concept creates disruptive innovation opportunities in the technology industry as it challenges the current market of separate laptops, smartphones, and tablets. - **Consumer Electronics:** The emergence of convergent devices like the 'If Convertible' presents disruptive innovation opportunities for the consumer electronics industry, as it expands the possibilities of device functionality. - **Software Development:** The platform integration aspect of the 'If Convertible' opens up disruptive innovation opportunities in the software development industry, as developers can create cross-compatibility and seamless experiences across different operating systems. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Modular Display Laptop Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/compal-dualflip-laptop.md) - [Size-Expanding Laptop Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/compal-electronics-infinite-laptop.md) - [Immersive All-Screen Laptops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/macbook-folio.md) - [Detachable Gaming Console Laptops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wistron-dual-fusion.md) - [Three-in-One Laptop Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seal-laptop.md) - [Lightweight Convertible Laptops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightweight-convertible-laptop.md) - [Multifunctional Foldable Mobile Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/move-mobile-device.md) - [Tri-Folding Smartphone Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tecno-phantom-ultimate-2.md) - [Folding Tablet-Like Laptops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/huawei-matebook-fold-ultimate.md)
