# Ice Volcanos Ice Fumarole in Antarctica By Trend Spotter | Published 2007-01-16 | Science Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ice-volcanos-ice-fumarole-in-antarctica References: [neatorama](http://www.neatorama.com/2007/01/14/ice-fumarole-in-antarctica/) & [smithsonianmag](http://www.smithsonianmag.com/issues/2006/december/antarctica.php) Antarctica is erupting with ice volcanos! Specifically, the icy land is home to volcanos that sputter [hot gas and lava](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deep-hot-rock) which create odd cave formations and towers of ice. **Implications** - Seeing these icy chimney stacks lining the flanks of Erebus is truly an amazing experience. Hundreds of [icy towers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-city-of-harbin) are created by the natural contrasting hot and cold environment of Antarctica. As the heat from volcanos melts the snow above creating a deep cave, the steam rising up instantly freezes as it meets the sub-zero temperatures. As the steam continues to rise and then freeze at the top, the spiky towers continue to grow. Some of these icy stacks stand up to 60 feet high. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 13% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Science](https://www.trendhunter.com/science) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Ice-volcano Tourism:** The unique natural phenomenon of ice volcanos in Antarctica presents an opportunity for the tourism industry to create a new niche market and experiential travel packages. - **Environmental Monitoring Through Ice Volcanos:** Studies of ice volcanos in Antarctica can help researchers understand the effects of climate change on polar regions, opening up opportunities for environmental research and monitoring industries. - **Energy Production From Ice Volcanos:** As new technologies develop, ice volcanos have the potential to become a renewable energy source, disrupting the energy industry and advancing sustainable development. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Tourism:** The unique natural phenomenon of ice volcanos in Antarctica presents an opportunity for the tourism industry to create a new niche market and experiential travel packages. - **Environmental Research:** Studies of ice volcanos in Antarctica can help researchers understand the effects of climate change on polar regions, opening up opportunities for environmental research and monitoring industries. - **Renewable Energy:** As new technologies develop, ice volcanos have the potential to become a renewable energy source, disrupting the energy industry and advancing sustainable development. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Cheesy Volcano-Inspired Pizzas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cheese-volcano-pizza.md) - [Arctic Portal Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arctic-portal.md) - [Iced Car Showrooms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iced-car-showroom.md) - [Self-Building Igloo Makers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inland-iglu.md) - [Antarctica Glamping Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/echo-camping-pods.md) - [Volcanic Visitor Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plat-asia.md) - [Haunting Glacial Fragrances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joklalykt.md) - [Volcanic Stone Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foscarini-lava-lamps.md) - [Volcanic-Themed Light Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stone-archive.md)
