# Atmospheric Light Cubes The Hypercube Manipulates Emotion Through Light By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-08-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hypercube References: [itsnicethat](http://www.itsnicethat.com/articles/kit-webster-hypercube) & [kitwebster](http://kitwebster.com/hypercube/) With his latest installation 'Hypercube,' Australian artist Kit Webster explores the emotional and psychological effects he can inflict upon his viewer through the [manipulation of light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shapes-of-light). The installation is made up of a coaxial cube fully equipped with an [LED set-up](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-the-invisible-visible) spanning 120 meters. Webster can control the light through custom-made software, allowing him to flip through prerecorded light patterns. He has the power to speed the cube up to near-hysteria, and then, just as easily, slow it down to a steady, peaceful rhythm. The project creates an interesting juxtaposition; on its own, the cube is a simple, minimalist structure that evokes a sense of balance. However, it transforms completely, becoming the host to "[range of intricate choreographies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chroma-installation)." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 82% | Activity: 31% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Emotion-inducing Light Installations:** Exploring the emotional and psychological effects of light manipulation through installation art, presenting opportunities for innovation in experiential marketing and event production. - **Customizable LED Light Control Software:** The development of custom light control software allows for greater control over lighting effects, creating opportunities for innovation in interior design, architectural lighting, and stage production. - **Minimalist Design with Complex Illumination:** Combining minimalistic design with intricate light choreographies simplifies the installation process while maintaining the potential for complex and immersive visual experiences, presenting opportunities for innovation in art-installation and retail environments. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Experiential Marketing:** Using emotion-inducing light installations to create immersive and memorable experiences, encouraging innovation in brand activations and event production. - **Interior Design:** Incorporating customizable LED light control software into interior design projects, allowing for innovation in architectural lighting and personalized lighting design for residential and commercial spaces. - **Art Installation and Exhibition:** Utilizing minimalist design with complex illumination choreographies in art installations and exhibitions, presenting opportunities for innovation in museum and gallery curation, and outdoor public installations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Colorful Cubic Smart Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neon-crystal.md) - [Wonderous Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/your-psychoacoustic-light-ensemble.md) - [Colourful Ambient Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ambient-lamp-design.md) - [Immersive Light Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/psychoacoustic-light-ensemble.md) - [Billowing Modular Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/curly-cube.md) - [Math-Driven Lighting Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alba-light.md) - [Connected Cubic Desk Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yeelight-cube.md) - [Holographic NFT Display Cubes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nft-display.md) - [Desktop GIF Displayers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cyber-cube.md)
