# Poignantly Pixelated Art Hwans Lim Depicts Contemporary and Timeless Relationships By Josh Triantafilou | Published 2012-05-19 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hwans-lim References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/3M/3950021) & [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/hwans) Singapore-based illustrator and graphic designer Hwans Lim recently released a couple of images on her Behance page that contrasts the bond between a mother and her child against the nature of the relationship people have with modern technology. The illustrations are rendered in an inventive and original format. Instead of merely drawing a mother and child, Lim realizes her concept through a multitude of variously colored squares. In a clever, subtle nod to technology, the aesthetic is quite reminiscent of pixelated designs and retro 8-bit graphics. The first image depicts a young mother holding a baby set against a large heart that itself is contrasted against a white tiled background. In the second image, the artist suggests that people have become shackled to modern technology. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.2/10 - Popularity: 25% | Activity: 3% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Pixelated Art:** Exploring the use of pixelation and 8-bit graphics in artistic expression. - **Contrasting Relationships:** Illustrating the difference between traditional bonds and the impact of modern technology. - **Inventive Formats:** Using creative techniques to convey meaningful concepts in visual art. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art and Design:** Opportunities for artists to experiment with new techniques and mediums in their work. - **Technology:** Developing innovative ways to explore the impact of technology on human relationships. - **Graphic Design:** Utilizing different visual styles to communicate complex ideas and emotions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Painting Display Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pointillism.md) - [AI-Generated Poetic Photo Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emilio-alarcn.md) - [Analog Nostalgia Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/back-to-basics-ii.md) - [Faceless Mother Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/invisible-mothers.md) - [Ornamental AI Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/prompting-nowhere.md) - [Digital City-Inspired Art Works](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grand-central-station.md) - [Art-Tech Zine Collaborations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twentynine-zine.md) - [Screen-Free Toy-Like Child Phones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miku-kids-phone.md) - [Maternal-Themed Sculptural Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mother-and-child.md)
