# Spiralling Gray Memorials Hung-Yin Yen Completes 'Journey' for His Grandmother By Jamie Danielle Munro | Published 2014-08-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hungyin-yen References: [designboom](http://www.designboom.com/architecture/hung-yin-yen-journey-concrete-memorial-taiwan-08-19-2014/) Designer Hung-Yin Yen had a request from his mother after his grandmother passed away: to build a [memorial in her memory](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/virtual-memorials). The creative agreed, and the result is a piece titled 'Journey' as a tribute to his grandparent. The [memorial is located in Taiwan](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/et302-memorial), and is made from mostly concrete material with a gray coloring. Since the design is very close to the sea, a special kind of sulphate-resistant concrete was used to ensure that the monument doesn't age too drastically over the years. The design spirals up from the ground and back again in one continuous loop, which is quite mesmerizing. This is a very touching design in memory of a grandmother from Hung-Yin Yen, and will serve as a reminder of her life for years to come.
