# Pie Chart Tables The Hunger Table Informs Fortunate Eaters of Global Nourishment Issues By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-08-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hunger-table References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2012/08/01/the-hunger-table/) & [luisporem](http://www.luisporem.com/projects/projects/2012/hunger_table/html/hunger_table.html) The dinner table is often the place where families come together and acknowledge their good fortunes. The Hunger Table encourages the importance of having a broad perspective on life by displaying the adversity of many. Luis Porem's piece is not merely an item to furnish a home, nor a surface on which to place food. It is also a graphical representation of global malnutrition in the form of a [pie graph](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pie-society). As an aside, this visual feature functions as a pun and comes with a touch of edible irony. But the appearance of the Hunger Table corresponds directly to the statistics of the [Food and Agriculture Organization](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ikea-binging-with-babish) (FAO) of the [United Nations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/united-through-food) for 2010, with each slice of wood depicting a geographic region and its relative shortage of food. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 13% | Activity: 19% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Interactive Furniture:** Creating furniture pieces that go beyond their primary function and offer interactive experiences. - **Data Visualization:** Using visual representations to communicate complex data in a more engaging and understandable way. - **Awareness Design:** Incorporating design elements that aim to raise awareness and prompt reflection on global issues. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** Exploring new ways to incorporate interactive and meaningful elements into furniture design. - **Information Technology:** Developing innovative data visualization tools and software to present information in a more intuitive and interactive manner. - **Social Impact Design:** Applying design principles to create products and experiences that encourage reflection, empathy, and social awareness. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Puzzling Removable Tray Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conceptual-puzzle-table.md) - [Collaborative Meal-Making Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/12-person-table.md) - [Artwork-Inspired Dining Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/d12-dining-table.md) - [Wine-Catered Vibrant Artful Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wine-table.md) - [Food Appreciation Puzzles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puzzle-thing-ny-heart.md) - [Sensory Stimulation Dining Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oasix-table.md) - [Subtly Smart Dining Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/etto-table.md) - [Anthropomorphic Design Dining Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sideboard-dining-table.md) - [Wealth Gap Pop-Ups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pie-society.md)
