# Plastic Bag-Wrapped Stools CROKÉ by Hugo Ribeiro is an End Table Covered in Crocheted Plastic Bags By Alyson Wyers | Published 2014-11-21 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hugo-ribeiro References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/croke-table-inspired-portuguese-stools-crocheting/) & [designstudiohugo.wix](http://designstudiohugo.wix.com/designstudio) This colorful side table designed by Hugo Ribeiro is embellished with differently hued plastic bags. Called CROKÉ, the [wooden stool](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roggbif) has layers on layers of crocheted plastic bags wrapped around its legs, leaving the pine table top exposed. The otherwise simple structure is inspired by traditional Portuguese stools. It also has a [hidden shelf](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polka-coffee-table) that is easily accessed by shoving your hand through the strands. This secret storage can be used for items like clocks and books or other items you would prefer not to have in open daylight. Hugo Ribeiro creatively used plastic bags, which one would normally throw out, to cover the corner table. This was also done to introduce "the art of crochet as a method and repetition." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.0/10 - Popularity: 94% | Activity: 77% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Upcycled Furniture:** Using discarded materials, like plastic bags, to create unique and sustainable furniture pieces. - **Artistic Repurposing:** Incorporating traditional craft techniques, such as crochet, to transform ordinary objects into visually striking designs. - **Hidden Storage Solutions:** Designing furniture with discreet storage compartments to maximize functionality and minimize clutter. ### Where This Applies - **Home Furnishings:** Opportunity for furniture companies to offer eco-friendly and artistic pieces that appeal to environmentally conscious consumers. - **Sustainable Design:** Potential for the design industry to explore creative ways to repurpose waste materials and promote sustainable practices. - **Interior Decor:** Demand for innovative furniture designs that not only provide practical solutions but also serve as stylistic focal points in home decor. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sustainable Side Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/re-up-side-tables.md) - [Chic Sustainable Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sustainable-side-table.md) - [Colorful Sustainable Recycled Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stump-recycled.md) - [Plastic-Inspired Wooden Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plastic-translation-stool.md) - [Multi-Position Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drop-side-table.md) - [Dual-Purpose Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dog-crate-and-end-table.md) - [Stackable Cork-Like Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drum-stool-1.md) - [Sustainable Colorful Multifunctional Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/superpop.md) - [Wrinkled Plastic Film-Wrapped Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paul-coenen-1.md)
