# Glass-Encompassing Abodes Apollo Architects's House Has Huge Skylights That Reach the Basement By Kyle Towers | Published 2013-04-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/huge-skylights References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2013/04/17/neut-by-apollo-architects-associates/) & [kurosakisatoshi](http://www.kurosakisatoshi.com/english/) The huge skylights in this house by [Apollo Architects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/element-house) extend from the roof right to the basement. This bold design creates a modern look of a home engulfed with glass. The goal of this incredible design was to create a space that would let more light flow throughout the house, especially into the normally [dark basement](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hw-studio-1). The designers have achieved this by creating huge skylights that are situated all throughout the house. This project is a great way to not only brighten up a home, but also to bring in the outdoor space to become more in tune with nature. The end result is a stunning piece of architecture, and I can only imagine the way the stars and the moon must look when they beam into the house at night. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 50% | Activity: 6% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Glass-focus Design:** This trend could lead to innovative development of glass technology, including skylights with adjustable opacity to control the amount of sunlight that enters a home or office. - **Home Energy Efficiency:** The use of natural light could lead to further exploration of home energy-efficient designs, including the use of solar panels and other innovative methods for harnessing natural energy. - **Integration with Nature:** The trend towards using more glass in architecture could lead to innovative designs that integrate natural features of the surrounding environment into the building itself. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture and Design:** This trend opens up opportunities for architects and designers to push the boundaries of traditional building materials and techniques. - **Construction and Building Materials:** Innovative glass technology could disrupt the traditional building materials industry and inspire new developments in construction technology. - **Renewable Energy:** The trend towards energy-efficient designs and harnessing natural energy opens up opportunities for renewable energy companies to partner with builders and designers to create more sustainable structures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Halo-Like Skylight Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/halo-house.md) - [Bright Attic Sanctuaries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foksal.md) - [London Home Skylit Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oliver-leech-architects.md) - [Hillside Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sky-house-1.md) - [Natural Light-Centric Timber Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/huron-house.md) - [Environmentally Blending Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ineffable-light.md) - [Bright Family Renovation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cobble-hill-townhouse.md) - [Skylight-Centric Home Renovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portland-house-renovation.md) - [Climate-Generating Skylight Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-con-lucarna.md)
