A new initiative started by HP will see the company's ink cartridges supply chain beginning in Haiti with locals collecting and [recycling spent plastic bottles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yop-bottles). Haiti was one of the poorest countries in the world even before it was hit by the catastrophic earthquake in 2010. The quake destroyed the paucity of infrastructure that the small island nation had, leaving it in social and economic shambles from which it has still not recovered. By employing Haitians to collect and recycle bottles, HP ink cartridges will not only support sustainability, but they will also provide much-needed employment in the country. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.9/10 - Popularity: 9% | Activity: 40% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Social Good](https://www.trendhunter.com/socialgood) > [Social Business](https://www.trendhunter.com/socialbusiness) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sustainable Supply Chains:** HP's new initiative in Haiti demonstrates the trend of companies adopting sustainable supply chains by sourcing materials from recycled sources. - **Recycled Plastic Manufacturing:** The initiative highlights the trend of utilizing recycled plastic as a material for manufacturing, reducing waste and promoting environmental conservation. - **Socially Responsible Initiatives:** HP's ink cartridge project in Haiti reflects the growing trend of companies engaging in socially responsible initiatives that have a positive impact on disadvantaged communities. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Printing and Imaging:** The printing and imaging industry could leverage the trend of sourcing ink cartridges from recycled plastic to enhance their sustainability efforts and appeal to environmentally conscious consumers. - **Recycling and Waste Management:** The recycling and waste management industry can explore partnerships with printer manufacturers like HP to capitalize on the trend of collecting and recycling spent plastic bottles for product manufacturing. - **Social Enterprise:** The social enterprise sector can find inspiration from HP's initiative in Haiti and capitalize on the trend of creating sustainable business models that support both environmental causes and employment opportunities in disadvantaged communities. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Eco-Friendly Laser Printers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hp-laser-printer.md) - [Recycled Printing Powders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atmix.md) - [Eco-Friendly Laptops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/14-inch-eco-edition.md) - [Low-Cost Printer Subscriptions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hp-all-in-plan.md) - [Recycled Plastic Bottle Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toss-in-take-out.md) - [3D-Printed Filament Makers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polyformer.md) - [Water Bottle Trade-In Programs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/water-bottle-tradein.md) - [Stylish Intelligent Printers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/powerhouse-office-printer.md) - [Sustainable Repurposed Plastic Mouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/microsoft-ocean-plastic-mouse.md)
