# The Suite Student Life Four Star Dorm Rooms By Going Like Sixty | Published 2007-08-24 | Lifestyle Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/how-suite-four-star-dorm-rooms References: [latimes](http://www.latimes.com/features/home/la-hm-dorm23aug23,1,5027920.story?coll=la-headlines-home&ctrack=1&cset=true) Texas A&M has a pool for residence hall dwellers that would put a lot of resorts to shame. UCIrvine features a residence hall with a massive fireplace and atrium design. DePaul lets students roam around a kitchen with granite countertops. The LA Times puts it this way, "The trend toward the four-star dorm is a convergence of several factors: a generation of students who have grown up sharing neither the bedroom nor the bathroom with siblings, parents who are accustomed to high tuition costs and don't object to paying a few hundred more per month for better accommodations, and universities competing for enrollment and using posh new residence halls as marketing tools." "Callaway Villas, in College Station next to Texas A&M, is a gated ACC complex of three-story town houses plus a 16,000-square-foot clubhouse, a resort-style pool, basketball courts, a sand volleyball court and shuffleboard. Living units have faux-hardwood floors, ceiling fans and, for those light sleepers, white-noise generators. ACC also manages more than 3,000 beds for UC Irvine in 54 low-rise buildings at two on-campus apartment complexes: Vista del Campo and Vista del Campo Norte. All the units have full kitchens, living rooms, high-speed Internet access and cable TV. Public spaces include a five-screen mini-theater, billiard tables, 24-hour fitness facilities, pools, gas barbecues and Wi-Fi in the common areas." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 37% | Activity: 45% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Life](https://www.trendhunter.com/life) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Four-star Dorms:** The trend towards the four-star dorm is driven by the demand for better accommodations and universities using posh residence halls as marketing tools. - **Luxurious Amenities:** The inclusion of resort-style pools, fitness facilities, theaters, and other upscale amenities in dormitories is becoming a disruptive innovation opportunity for the housing and real estate industry. - **Competitive Enrollment:** Universities are competing for enrollment by offering high-quality, upscale residence halls, creating a disruptive innovation opportunity in the higher education industry. ### Who This Affects Most - **Housing and Real Estate:** The demand for luxurious dormitory amenities is driving disruption in the housing and real estate industry. - **Higher Education:** Universities can gain a competitive edge by offering upscale residence halls, presenting a disruptive innovation opportunity in the higher education industry. - **Hospitality and Leisure:** The trend towards four-star dorms with resort-style amenities presents a disruptive innovation opportunity for the hospitality and leisure industry to cater to college students' accommodation needs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Menu-Inspired Dorm Decor](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urban-outfitters-x-chipotle.md) - [Dorm Concierge Services](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dorm-concierge.md) - [Taco-Themed Dorm Makeovers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tacommodation.md) - [Gen Z Dorm Makeovers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dream-dorm-makeover-contest.md) - [Welcoming Prefabricated Student Housing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ignacio-prego-architectures.md) - [Mobile Dorm-Designing Features](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pottery-barn-teen-2.md) - [Branded On-Campus Laundry Lounges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oncampus-laundry.md) - [Dream Dorm Design Courses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/command-brand-hannah-brown.md) - [Customizable Student Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/make-it-your-own-furniture.md)
