# Crag-Encased Residences House on the Mountainside is a Stark Contrast to Its Natural Surroundings By Meghan Young | Published 2011-05-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-on-the-mountainside References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/skim-milk-house-on-the-mountainside-by-fran-silvestre-arquitectos) & [fransilvestrenavarro](http://www.fransilvestrenavarro.com/) As much as I love nature to be as untouched as possible to preserve its raw beauty, the [House on the Mountainside](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-three-heights) shows how the contrast between manmade objects against a [rugged backdrop](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/las-rocas) can also be a spectacular sight to behold. Considering that this particular residence takes on a very [sharp, stark and minimalist aesthetic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aip-azia-villa) makes it pop even more amid its craggy surroundings. Designed by ran Silvestre Arquitectos, the House on the Mountainside does actually embrace nature more than we would have first believed. It is actually made out of the same material that littered the foundation on which it sits: white limestone. An airy and open concept, the House on the Mountainside has a stunning view of the Valley of Ayora. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.2/10 - Popularity: 86% | Activity: 62% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Minimalist Architecture:** Create minimalist structures that contrast with natural landscapes to create visually stunning results. - **Nature-inspired Design:** Incorporate natural materials into architectural designs to create a harmonious connection with the surrounding environment. - **Sustainable Construction:** Utilize local, eco-friendly materials and practices to create residential structures that minimize environmental impact. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** Architects can explore innovative design approaches that embrace the natural landscape and create unique structures. - **Construction:** Construction companies can focus on sustainable practices and using locally-sourced materials to reduce their environmental footprint. - **Real Estate:** Real estate developers can market eco-friendly and visually striking homes that appeal to environmentally-conscious buyers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Chilean Hillside Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-three-heights.md) - [Elevated Mountain Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-cadree-perche.md) - [Hillside Concrete Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/concrete-house-1.md) - [Hillside Embedded Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-the-slope.md) - [Residential Mountain Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/avber-house.md) - [Modern Highland Residential Projects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-the-andes.md) - [Minimal Mountain Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caju-house.md) - [Snow Mountain Minimal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/snowfall-house.md) - [Cliffside Minimalist Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aip-azia-villa.md)
