# Red-Brick Raised Timber Homes Agora Arquitectura Designs the House on a Brick Base in Barcelona By Amy Duong | Published 2023-05-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-on-a-brick-base References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2023/05/08/agora-arquitectura-house-on-a-brick-base/) Spanish studio Agore Arquitectura concerts a brick building to function as a base foundation that supports a [raised timber house](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/balmoral-hillside-house) dubbed the House on a Brick Base located in the outskirts of Barcelona. It takes over a site that has an old tool shed and a small red-brick building. Both of these were ruins and are now brought back to life as the structure is extended throughout the sloped landscape to use the entire space. Co-founder of Agora Arquitectura, Joan Casals Pañella speaks about the design to Dezeen, noting that "At the bottom of the site, a small building in ruins invited us to build a new home, recalling old ways of building in its place. A ramp, which allows access to the lower level of the terrain, or stairs hidden behind the openwork wall, allow for a ceremonious ascent towards the built interior. Following the stairs lets visitors discover a 100-year-old olive tree that invites them into the area in front of the main door."
