# Cardboard-Constructed Homes The 'House of Cardboard' Must be Kept Away from Open Flames By Megan Facciuolo | Published 2014-05-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-of-cardboard References: [designtaxi](http://designtaxi.com/news/365695/Artists-Create-Black-And-White-House-Of-Cardboard-With-Themed-Rooms/?t=1400603024055) & [dosshaus](http://www.dosshaus.com/) Creative duo David Connelly and Zoey Taylor created an impressive house and its contents entirely out of cardboard, which is aptly titled '[House of Cardboard](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/petsy-cat-house).' The artists made every wall and piece of decor and furniture in grayscale colors. It makes the room look surreal and cartoon-like. Connelly and Taylor painted cardboard to construct the house. Each room even has a unique theme like ‘The Music Room,’ ‘The Writer's Room’ and ‘The Unexpected Luncheon’ room. A woman, who is assumed to be Taylor, posed in the rooms whimsically, as if it was her living space. She can be seen snapping photos on her cardboard camera, donning a [cardboard pair of shoes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cardboard-chaos) and playing a [cardboard violin](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/working-synth). Even her clothing is constructed with cardboard. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.1/10 - Popularity: 66% | Activity: 19% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Cardboard-constructed Homes:** The opportunity to disrupt the traditional home construction industry by creating environmentally friendly and affordable alternatives using cardboard. - **Sustainable Interior Design:** The ability to create eco-friendly and customizable home decor options using cardboard. - **Artistic Use of Recyclables:** The potential to inspire more artists and designers to explore the creative potential of recyclable materials beyond the traditional uses. ### Where This Applies - **Home Construction:** Innovating the traditional methods of home construction by exploring the use of sustainable materials, like cardboard, to make environmentally conscious homes more accessible. - **Interior Design:** Revolutionizing the interior design industry by exploring the innovative usage of recyclable materials in creating unique and customizable home decor options. - **Art and Design:** Promoting the creativity and unique usage of recyclables in different artistic fields to encourage sustainable and environmentally friendly art. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Cardboard-Inspired Ceramic Household Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cardboard-collection.md) - [Cardboard Box-Transformed Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/box-exhibition.md) - [Structure Building Cards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-of-cards-building-kit.md) - [Cardboard Box Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/karton-furniture-collection.md) - [Sustainably Crafted Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-log-house.md) - [Abstract Fantasy Home Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/abstract-fantasy-home.md) - [Affordable Minimalist Cat Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/petsy-cat-house.md) - [Recycled Guitar Prototypes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cardboard-guitar-1.md) - [Cardboard-Resembling Illusion Cakes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cardboard-cake.md)
