# Spiral-Shaped Abodes House in Espoo by Olavi Kopose is Rustically Textured By Meghan Young | Published 2013-03-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-espoo References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2013/03/14/house-in-espoo-by-olavi-kopose/) & [leajakama.fi](http://leajakama.fi/) The House in Espoo is a [spiral-shaped abode](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twisted-house1) that is as rustic-looking as it is contemporary. The [roofing extends all the way around](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-house-in-the-farm) of the exterior to create a textured look that adds to the sinuous nature of the structure. Instead of being smooth like a snake, the House in Espoo looks more like a large twisted twig. Designed by Olavi Kopose, the House in Espoo is located in Finland. The two-level structure even continues the texture inside. The walls and ceilings look almost thatched, which adds another dimension to the otherwise [modern minimalist interior decor](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-hkarn). What really sets apart the design of the house are the built-in appliances and fixtures which have an organic aesthetic that adds to the rustic nature of the design. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.1/10 - Popularity: 72% | Activity: 74% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Spiral-shaped Architecture:** There is opportunity for architects and builders to design and construct more spiral-shaped homes that combine natural and modern elements. - **Textured Exterior Design:** Exterior designers and builders can explore creating textured and unique-looking exteriors that add an additional layer of design to a property. - **Organic Aesthetic Design:** Interior designers and builders can incorporate more organic aesthetic fixtures and appliances into homes for a more rustic and natural feel. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Architects can explore new shapes and designs for home construction that incorporate unique elements. - **Exterior Design:** Exterior designers can focus on creating textured and visually appealing exteriors for homes and buildings. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers and builders can focus on incorporating more organic and rustic elements into the fixtures and appliances of homes and buildings. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Figure 8-Structured House](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-loop-house.md) - [Wooden Traditional Finnish Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/espoo-house.md) - [Snake-Resembling Sculptural Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chuzhi.md) - [Scandinavian Barn Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-comet.md) - [Sculptural Inverted Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-house-with-an-inverted-roof.md) - [Hillside Embedded Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-the-slope.md) - [Cave-Like Folded Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wild-house.md) - [Floating Level Aesthetic Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oak-house-1.md) - [Curved Garden-Surrounding Linear Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-dos-terraos-circulares.md)
