# Coastal Mid-Century Residences The House in Anglesea Preserves and Updates a 1950s Beach Home By Amy Duong | Published 2025-11-07 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-anglesea References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2025/11/06/mgao-house-in-alglesea-victoria-mid-century-renovation/) The House in Anglesea, designed by MGAO, known as Matt Goodman Architecture Office, revitalises a [mid-century beach house](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pasadena-hillside-home) on Victoria’s Surf Coast by carefully retaining its original character while introducing modern enhancements. The renovation honours the home’s 1950s roots—maintaining the L-shaped layout, adding higher ceilings, and opening the living spaces toward a [native garden](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gardeners-house-1). Materials include bagged brick, [blackbutt timber ceilings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-guaec-project) and large glazed windows that enhance indoor-outdoor connections and bring late-afternoon light into the central courtyard. Functionality has been upgraded without compromising atmosphere. The update includes better insulation, improved layout for three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and subtle references to the original structure in column positions and ceiling planes. The transformed home blends familiar forms with refined details, creating a residence that feels both grounded in history and ready for present-day living.
