# Smoldering Modern Seats The Hot Chair Was Designed for Sitting Near and Not Sitting On By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-10-02 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hot-chair References: [officinedelfuoco.it](http://www.officinedelfuoco.it/hot-chair/) It would be best not to make the mistake of sitting down on the Hot Chair, especially when the piece is active. It might look convincingly like a [modern seating object](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atypical-chair), but it actually functions as a fireplace. Paolo Gentile dreamed up this project for Officine Del Fuoco, an Italian company that sells unique bio fireplaces. With them, you can find a range of creative items, but this one really stands out. It's been made from metal and finished in a bright heat-resistant coating of either red, black, orange or white. The bold color further emphasizes its [sharp bends](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wire-chair-concept) and its overall [abstract and sculptural shape](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immaterial-0001). Where one might expect to find a cozy cushion, you'll instead see a silver plate where the flame emerges. The Hot Chair's 1-Liter tank can burn autonomously for three hours, and otherwise sit misleadingly in the corner of the room. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.3/10 - Popularity: 32% | Activity: 29% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Hot Chair Design:** There is a trend towards designing seating objects with unconventional functions, such as functioning as a fireplace. - **Abstract and Sculptural Shapes:** A trend in design is the use of bold and abstract shapes to create visually striking seating objects. - **Heat-resistant Coatings:** The use of heat-resistant coatings on seating objects is becoming popular, providing both functionality and aesthetics. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers have the opportunity to explore the creation of seating objects that serve multiple purposes, such as functioning as a fireplace. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate seating objects with abstract and sculptural shapes to add a unique and visually appealing element to their spaces. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can benefit from the use of heat-resistant coatings on seating objects, offering customers both style and safety. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Espresso Maker-Inspired Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moka-chair.md) - [Suspenseful Statement Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/edgeofyr.md) - [Kitchen-Inspired Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-pole-collection.md) - [Modernist Ski-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tip-chair.md) - [Table-Equipped Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/migo-chair.md) - [Modern Design-Exploring Art Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pratone-chair.md) - [Artfully Balanced Chair Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/halfway-serious.md) - [Sleek Steel Structural Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/combchair.md) - [Supportive Lightning Bolt Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightning-chair.md)
