# Eroding Monolithic Edifices The Hostel for Traveling Musicians Embraces the Echo By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-09-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hostel-for-traveling-musicians References: [suckerpunchdaily](http://www.suckerpunchdaily.com/2011/08/25/hostel-for-traveling-musicians/#more-15569) & [teomanayas](http://teomanayas.com/) Creating drama in architecture is more of a fine art than an endeavor for flamboyance. The Hostel for Traveling Musicians reveals a recognition of this, because despite its relatively stark street front, it's the carved out base that renders its impression quite spectacular. With the rigid rectilinear walls of the flanking masses and the somewhat subdued geometric facade of the central slivered structure, the project hardly prepares its patrons for the dissolving pedestal below. The bleached building seems to teeter on two eroding points, as if the rushing water and winds of time have slowly swept out curvaceous cavities. As a destination for the artistically inclined, the Hostel for Traveling Musicians is served well by this [cavernous composition](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/william-vale-hotel) below. Teoman Ayas saw the [soft stalactites](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wild-house) as a way to turn the architecture into an echoing instrument. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.3/10 - Popularity: 44% | Activity: 16% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Dramatic Architecture:** Opportunity for architectural designs that incorporate drama and artistic elements to create visual impact. - **Carved-out Bases:** Opportunity to explore architectural designs that feature carved-out bases to enhance the overall impression of the structure. - **Cavernous Compositions:** Opportunity to utilize architectural features that resemble caves or caverns to enhance the experience of the space. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for architects to explore unconventional designs that evoke dramatic and artistic elements. - **Hospitality:** Opportunity for the hospitality industry to create accommodation spaces that incorporate unique architectural features, appealing to artistically inclined guests. - **Creative Arts:** Opportunity for artists and musicians to collaborate with architects to create immersive spaces that integrate architecture and artistic expression. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Lakeside Cultural Landmarks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/isola-della-mus.md) - [Sculptural Cultural Hubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aydc-public-art-centre.md) - [Perorated Brickwork Music Centers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-gong.md) - [Trio Cuboid Music Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/edward-and-joyce-linde-music-building.md) - [Building-Nestled Compact Cafes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chapel-cafe.md) - [Mountain‑inspired Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-echo-villa.md) - [Subterranean Social Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/william-vale-hotel.md) - [Sculptural Ruin Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-of-horns.md) - [Mirrored Facade Concert Halls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jzef-wider-state-music-school.md)
