# Intergalactic Boom Boxes Space Researchers Puzzled by Strange Extraterrestrial Noise By Going Like Sixty | Published 2009-01-15 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/horrific-science-boom-boxes-make-intergalactic-comeback References: [nasa.gov](http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/news/topstory/2009/arcade_balloon.html) You thought that loud booming noise was thunder? Or a sonic boom, or the burrito backfire? Actually, it could have come from outside our solar system and it totally has scientists mystified. Just recently, a balloon launched years ago heard a booming noise *six* times louder than anybody predicted. Analysis says that the boom is a mystery. Lots of things emit [radio waves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/audac), but nothing of this magnitude. **Implications** - One of the team members at Dale Fixsen of the University of Maryland at College Park explain that in order to find out what exactly caused the boom there would have to be hundreds of radios packed into outer space. He explains that the idea is not realistic, but perhaps future technology will be able to explain the [space noises](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/andr-terchanian). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 19% | Activity: 5% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Bizarre](https://www.trendhunter.com/bizarre) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Interstellar Communication:** The discovery of mysterious radio waves from space prompts development of interstellar communication technology. - **Space Exploration:** Exploration of outer space is necessary to observe and understand unusual noises and other phenomena in outer space. - **Space-based Technology:** New technologies and innovations must be developed for advanced space exploration and research. ### Where This Applies - **Aerospace Industry:** Extraterrestrial noise requires the development of more sophisticated aerospace technologies and spacecrafts. - **Telecommunications Industry:** The discovery of mysterious radio waves from space opens up new opportunities for the development of interstellar communication technologies. - **Research and Development:** More research and development is required to better understand and explore the unknown phenomena in outer space. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Ludicrously Loud Bluetooth Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loud-bluetooth-speaker.md) - [Loud Oval-Structured Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/epicboom-speaker.md) - [Powerful Portable Party Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hyperboom.md) - [In-Game Music Players](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roblox-2.md) - [Sci-Fi-Inspired Speaker Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gravastar-supernova-bluetooth-speaker.md) - [Sustainable Solar-Powered Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solgaard-solarbank-boombox.md) - [Spaceship-Resembling Premium Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zeppelin-pro-edition.md) - [Music-Focused E-Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/noordung-boombox.md) - [Intergalactic-Inspired Lifestyle Products](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacio.md)
