# Raw Material Illuminators The 'Hoop' and 'Staff' Lamps from the Far-flung Studio are Minimalist By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2019-11-13 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hoop-and-staff-lamps References: [yankodesign](https://www.yankodesign.com/2019/11/12/far-flung-studios-minimalist-memphis-decor-features-upcycled-hoops-concrete-and-rebonded-foam/) & [far-flungstudio](https://far-flungstudio.com/) The 'Hoop' and 'Staff' lamps from the Far-flung Studio are a series of illumination fixtures that explore the idea of how old raw materials can be transformed into something new to maintain relevancy. Each light is characterized by its bright red support frame along with a concrete support to lend stability as well as a touch of Brutalist minimalism. These concrete supports can also be used as a makeshift seating solution that will enhance the functionality of a space without opting for conventional furniture. The 'Hoop' and 'Staff' lamps feature illumination components that can be swiveling around to provide targeted or passive lighting, which makes them suitable as either direct or indirect light options. The 'Hoop' unit is accented by the 'Foam Chair,' which is crafted with [rebonded foam](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nytt-lys-collection) to further accentuate the upcycled nature of the decor. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.4/10 - Popularity: 93% | Activity: 61% | Freshness: 9% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Raw Material Upcycling:** Opportunities to transform old raw materials into new products that maintain relevancy and offer a touch of Brutalist minimalism in home decor. - **Swiveling Illumination Components:** Innovations in fixtures that offer both targeted and passive lighting options for spaces. - **Multipurpose Furniture Design:** Designing furniture that serves multiple functions, such as utilizing concrete supports as seating solutions to enhance the functionality of a space. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Decor Industry:** Incorporating raw material upcycling innovations paired with multipurpose furniture design trends into home decor products. - **Lighting Industry:** Developing fixtures with swiveling illumination components to offer both targeted and passive lighting options. - **Furniture Industry:** Integrating concrete supports as seating solutions into furniture designs to offer innovative multipurpose functionality for spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Material-Exploring Industrial-Style Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/industrialstyle-lighting.md) - [Recycled Leather Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corium-standing-floor-lamp.md) - [Raw Minimalist Pine Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hoop-table-lamp.md) - [Brutalist Bedside Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vestige-lamp.md) - [Flatpack Minimalist Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-loop-lamp.md) - [Industrial Contemporary Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shop-light.md) - [Utensil Waste Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nytt-lys.md) - [Bonfire-Inspired Indoor Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iri-lamp.md) - [Recycled Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nytt-lys-collection.md)
