"The [Hong Kong Airport Authority](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/halal-menu) signed a deal with [Rockwell Collins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/festo-ax-motion-insights-pneumatic) to deploy 120 [self-service bag drop systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/automated-retail-technologies) at the airport in one of the largest such projects in the world." Enhancing convenience, this service is one of many around the globe and follows in the footsteps of Melbourne Airport's recent introduction of an all-encompassing self service terminal. In addition to becoming more popular at airports, self-service kiosks and robotic employees are slowly replacing traditional hotel staff while promoting cost-effective and convenient travel options. Hong Kong International Airport's practical baggage stations let travelers check in luggage and print out appropriate tags in a timely fashion. This means that they are no longer left worrying about long lines or more formal check-ins. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 20% | Activity: 32% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Self-service Baggage Kiosks:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop advanced self-service baggage kiosks with AI-powered features such as facial recognition for seamless and secure check-in. - **Robotic Employees in Hospitality:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create robots equipped with language processing and customer service skills to assist with check-in and concierge services in hotels, reducing labor costs and enhancing convenience. - **All-in-one Self-service Terminals:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design comprehensive self-service terminals that incorporate features like baggage check-in, immigration clearance, and boarding pass printing for a seamless and efficient airport experience. ### Who This Affects Most - **Airport Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop advanced airport technologies that streamline processes, enhance traveler experiences, and improve operational efficiency. - **Hospitality Services:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the use of automation and robotics to revolutionize the hospitality industry, delivering personalized and efficient services while reducing labor costs. - **Travel and Tourism:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Leverage emerging technologies to create innovative solutions that enhance convenience, reduce wait times, and create seamless travel experiences for tourists. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Updated Airport Baggage Drops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/queenstown-airport.md) - [Contactless Airport Shops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airport-shop.md) - [AI-Powered Airport Restaurants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barcelona-airport.md) - [AI Airport Assistants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hello-aberdeen.md) - [In-App Baggage-Tracking Features](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-canada-mobile-app.md) - [Digital Airline Tags](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/digital-bag-tags.md) - [Circular Concierge Kiosks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/screen-concierge.md) - [AI Checkout Kiosks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/self-checkout-lines.md) - [Tourist-Friendly Cafe Kiosks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/starbucks-selfservice-kiosks.md)
