# Practical Cushioned Shelves The 'SNUG' Padded Shelf is the Most Adept of Home Decor Accessories By Farida Helmy | Published 2014-01-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/home-decor-accessories References: [freshome](http://freshome.com/2014/01/15/original-shelf-padded-soft-cushions-snug-giorgio-bombace/) & [formabilio](https://www.formabilio.com/shop/home-accessories/shelves/snug-soft-coin-tray) The latest in [smart home decor accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/home-interior-accents) comes in the form of SNUG, a padded shelf using intensely hued cushions to brighten up any room -- and a place for our smart phones, keys and everyday objects to call home. Designed by Giorgio Bombace for Formabilio, this surprisingly simple innovation will give dull walls a splash of color and avoid scratching wood shelves with sharp objects -- and it makes sure our delicate objects are properly cocooned. The padded shelf is easy to assembly making it both aesthetically pleasing and a practical interior home decor accessory. The most impressive thing about SNUG is that it will diminish the nerving clattering noise you get from everyday objects being planked on the shelf on your way in. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.7/10 - Popularity: 74% | Activity: 58% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Smart Home Decor Accessories:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop more innovative and functional smart home decor accessories that enhance the aesthetic appeal of homes and provide practical solutions. - **Cushioned Shelving:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create advanced cushioned shelving systems that protect delicate objects from damage while adding a pop of color and style to any room. - **Noise Reduction Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design noise reduction technology for home decor accessories that reduces clattering sounds caused by everyday objects being placed on shelves. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture and Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate cushioned shelving into the furniture and home decor industry to provide more functional and visually appealing products. - **Smartphone and Key Accessories:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop specialized shelves or compartments within home decor accessories for safely storing and organizing smartphones, keys, and everyday objects. - **Soundproofing and Acoustic Solutions:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Combine cushioned shelving with soundproofing and acoustic technologies to create home decor accessories that not only provide visual appeal but also reduce noise pollution. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Clock-Accented Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omega-shelf.md) - [Mounted Colorful Shelving Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ledge-shelf.md) - [Curvaceous Storage-Focused Nightstands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cozy-night-stand.md) - [Dynamic Storage-Display Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life.md) - [Jigsaw Puzzle-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puzzle-shelf.md) - [Room-Dividing Bookshelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frquence-shelf.md) - [Work-Life Balance Shelving Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/criteria-shelf.md) - [Wood Desk Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/desk-shelf-pro.md)
